Toxicology's simple story — "more toxin, worse outcome" — breaks down at low doses for a documented class of stressors: hormesis, a biphasic response where a mild dose of a substance that is harmful at high concentration actually stimulates the organism, before the classic toxic decline takes over. This simulator renders the Brain–Cousens hormesis model as a live 3D dose-response curve alongside a grid of individual organisms, each with its own randomly drawn sensitivity, so you can watch a population's survival count rise slightly before collapsing as the toxin dose climbs. Adjust the hormetic strength, potency and ED50 threshold to see how the characteristic inverted-U hump forms, flattens, or disappears entirely into an ordinary monotonic toxicity curve.
