Tablet Compaction: Powder Densification & the Heckel Equation

Interactive 3D tablet-press simulator: watch a powder bed densify between two punches as compression pressure ramps up, driven by the real Heckel equation, with live relative density, porosity, tablet height and mean yield pressure readouts.

Every pharmaceutical tablet begins as a loose bed of powder granules poured into a cylindrical die, then squeezed between two punches until it becomes a solid, dense compact. This simulator renders that die and punch assembly in 3D and drives it with the real Heckel equation — the pharmaceutical-technology model relating relative density to applied pressure — so the powder bed visibly densifies, the bed height drops, and porosity falls as the compression stroke runs. Adjust the peak pressure, the material's mean yield pressure (how plastic vs. brittle it is), and its initial rearrangement density to see how a soft excipient compacts to full density in a light stroke while a hard, brittle one needs far more force to reach the same tablet strength.
