Battery Electrochemistry: 2D Cross-Section & Voltage Trace (2D)
A flat cross-section of a lithium-ion cell: Li⁺ ions shuttle across the electrolyte and electrons loop through an external bulb, while a scrolling strip chart plots voltage, state of charge and state of health over the last minute so you can read the trend instead of a single flickering number.
The 3D version of this simulation lets you orbit a free-floating electrochemical cell; this 2D companion drives the identical current/C-rate/temperature model but lays it out flat and adds a second view the 3D scene doesn't have: a scrolling strip chart. Toggling Discharge or Charge flips the direction Li⁺ ions cross the electrolyte and the direction electrons loop through the external bulb, while the Current, C-rate and Temperature sliders feed the same equations as the 3D engine — ion mobility scaling roughly 1.5% per °C around a 25°C reference, state of charge integrating current × C-rate over time, and state of health slowly eroding outside the 0–35°C comfort band or under sustained high C-rate. The chart panel plots all three outputs — voltage, state of charge and state of health — over the last 60 seconds, so a fast-charge stress test or a cold-weather sag shows up as a visible trend rather than a number you have to watch continuously.
2D lithium-ion cell cross-section with the same current/C-rate/temperature electrochemistry model as the 3D version, plus a scrolling voltage/SOC/health strip chart.
