Droop Control 2D: Frequency Diagrams for Microgrid Power Sharing
Interactive 2D microgrid droop-control simulator: a live network diagram, per-unit droop-line plots and a scrolling frequency strip chart show a diesel genset and two grid-forming inverters sharing a common load. Tune droop percentages, governor/inverter time constants and grid stiffness, trip the diesel offline, and pan/zoom the network view.
A microgrid with more than one generation source has no central dispatcher telling each unit how much to produce — instead, every source obeys a local frequency-droop curve, and the shared AC frequency itself becomes the silent messenger that balances the books. This 2D diagram view models a diesel genset and two grid-forming inverters feeding a common bus across three linked panels: a pannable/zoomable network diagram with animated power-flow particles, a live droop-line chart showing each unit's operating point converge on the shared frequency, and a scrolling frequency strip chart. Set the total load, each unit's droop percentage, governor/inverter time constants and grid stiffness, trip the diesel offline, and watch the whole system settle at the frequency where every unit's droop-determined output sums to exactly the load.
