Archimedes Screw Pump Efficiency
Interactive 3D Archimedes screw pump: adjust rotation speed, tilt angle, intake water level and casing gap, and watch volumetric leakage, splash loss and mechanical friction combine into a real efficiency curve with a peak rotation speed.
This simulator models a real Archimedes screw pump — a rotating helical flight inside a tilted trough that lifts water from a low sump to a higher discharge point. Instead of a single fixed "efficiency" number, it computes volumetric efficiency (leakage through the casing gap), fill efficiency (splash and inertia losses at high speed) and mechanical efficiency separately, and multiplies them into an overall efficiency that peaks at a specific rotation speed — exactly the trade-off real screw-pump and hydropower-screw designers tune for. Adjust rotation speed, tilt angle, intake submergence and casing gap and watch the 3D screw, the water it carries, and the leak droplets falling back through the gap respond in real time.
Tilted 3D Archimedes screw pump that separately models volumetric leakage through the casing gap, splash/fill loss at high speed, and mechanical friction, showing why overall efficiency peaks at a specific rotation speed.
