Hydrofoil Cavitation Inception Speed
Interactive 3D hydrofoil simulator: tune speed, angle of attack, depth and water temperature and watch the cavitation number, minimum surface pressure coefficient and live vapor bubbles predict exactly when the suction side flashes to vapor.
This simulator predicts exactly when a hydrofoil's suction side begins to cavitate. It renders a real 3D foil whose surface is colored by local pressure margin above the water's vapor pressure, computed from the cavitation number σ = (p∞ − pv) / (½ρV²) against the foil's minimum pressure coefficient at the current angle of attack. Drag the speed, angle of attack, depth and water-temperature sliders and watch σ and Cp,min update live — the moment σ crosses below −Cp,min, vapor bubbles erupt along the leading-edge suction peak exactly where the physics says they should, and the panel reports the inception speed for the settings you've chosen.
Tune a hydrofoil's speed, angle of attack, depth and water temperature and watch the cavitation number and minimum surface pressure coefficient predict, live, exactly when the suction side flashes to vapor.
