Tidal Turbine Fish Strike & Sediment Wake Simulator
Interactive 3D tidal-turbine-array simulator: watch a fish shoal navigate turbine wakes across a semi-diurnal tidal cycle, tune blade tip-speed ratio and avoidance behavior, and track live strike risk, sediment scour/deposition, and power output.
Tidal-stream turbines convert the kinetic energy of flooding and ebbing water into electricity, but the same rotors that harvest a channel's flow also sit directly in the path of migrating fish and reshape the seabed around their foundations. This simulator drives a row of turbines through a compressed semi-diurnal (M2) tidal cycle, computing real power output from ρ, swept area and flow velocity cubed, while a flocking fish shoal swims the channel and reacts to each rotor's wake with a tunable avoidance strength. Raise the blade tip-speed ratio for more power and watch the estimated strike rate climb; flip on slow-rotation mitigation to see the power/ecology trade-off directly; and watch sediment quietly scour near the foundations and settle in the low-velocity wakes downstream — the same environmental-monitoring questions real tidal-energy projects have to answer before permitting.
Drive a tidal-turbine array through a real semi-diurnal (M2) tidal cycle while a flocking fish shoal navigates the rotor wakes, and track live power output, fish strike risk, and seabed scour/deposition as you tune blade tip-speed ratio and avoidance behavior.
