Tidal Kite Power — 2D Flight & Power Curve Simulator
Interactive 2D simulator of a tethered tidal kite flying a figure-eight crosswind loop through a tidal current to multiply flow speed onto a small onboard turbine — adjust current speed, glide ratio, tether length and rotor diameter, drag to pan the flight-plane view, and watch power scale with the cube of kite speed on a live log-scale power curve.
A tethered underwater kite — the mechanism behind real "deep green" tidal power devices — doesn't sit still in the current like a conventional turbine. Anchored to the seabed on a tether, it flies a fast figure-eight loop crosswind to the tidal stream, building up a water-relative speed many times the current itself, set by its wing's glide ratio. A small turbine riding on the kite then sees that multiplied flow instead of the raw current, and since power scales with the cube of speed, this lets a slow, otherwise uneconomical current drive meaningful power output from a rotor a fraction of the size a fixed turbine would need. This simulator renders the kite's real flight path in a pannable, zoomable 2D flight-plane view alongside a live log-scale power curve, with current speed, glide ratio, tether length and rotor diameter all under your control and power output, kite speed, relative rotor flow and the multiplier over a fixed seabed turbine read out in real time.
