♨️ Geothermal Geyser Cycle (2D)
A cross-section companion to the 3D geyser sim: watch a sealed underground chamber heat past its depth-suppressed boiling point, flash-boil into a real eruption, drain, and recharge with cool groundwater before the cycle repeats.
This 2D companion trades the 3D scene's orbiting camera for a labeled cross-section: an underground chamber fills with groundwater and heats toward a boiling point that rises with the weight of the water column above it, so superheated water can exist well past 100°C before it flashes to steam. Push heat flux and vent constriction high and eruptions arrive hotter and more violent; push groundwater recharge high and the chamber refills — and the cycle repeats — faster.
Chamber temperature climbs toward a depth- and constriction-dependent boiling threshold (a simplified Clausius–Clapeyron-style relation); crossing it flips the chamber into an eruption state that drains water through the vent as a particle jet, cools the remaining water via latent heat, then hands off to a recharge phase that refills the chamber with cooler groundwater before heating resumes.
