Plasmonic Nanofocusing 2D: Drude-Model Taper Profile

Interactive 2D nanophotonics simulator: a cross-section view of a tapered metal tip where a surface plasmon polariton compresses toward a nanometre-scale hot spot, with live Drude-model permittivity, local wavelength, mode-index profile and field enhancement — drag along the tip to probe any point.

This 2D companion to the 3D nanofocusing simulator shows the same adiabatic-taper physics as a cross-section: a surface plasmon polariton launched at the wide base of a tapered gold or silver tip travels toward the apex, and as the local radius shrinks toward the metal's skin depth the mode index climbs, the wavelength compresses, and the field intensity piles up into a nanometre-scale hot spot. Alongside the taper view, a live index/wavelength profile chart and an Argand plot of the Drude-model permittivity make the underlying equations visible directly, and dragging along the tip probes the exact local values at any point.
