Ground fires move through a forest as a fuel-driven, wind-steered contagion process: how fast and how hot a fire burns depends on how much dead fuel has built up, how dry that fuel is, and which way the wind is blowing. Fire managers exploit exactly these variables in reverse — cutting control lines to break the fuel bed's continuity, and deliberately burning strips of forest under mild, chosen weather so the fuel load never accumulates to the point where a wildfire becomes uncontainable. This simulation runs a real cellular fire-spread model: adjust wind, moisture and fuel load, then place a control line or run a prescribed burn and watch whether the resulting fire stays a low ground fire or torches into the canopy.
