Forest Stand Age Structure & Sustainable Harvest
Interactive 3D simulation of a managed forest stand: watch tree age-class structure evolve over simulated decades as clear-cut or selective harvest removes trees, regeneration replants bare ground, and carbon stock rises and falls with the cutting cycle.
Sustainable forestry balances a very human need for timber against how slowly a forest actually rebuilds itself. This simulation models one stand of trees over decades: each tree ages, grows and eventually gets logged on a management cycle, either tree-by-tree (selective) or in a single cleared block (clear-cut). Adjust the harvest rate, cutting cycle and regeneration success to see how quickly old-growth cover and carbon stock recover — or collapse — under different management regimes.
Interactive 3D simulation of a managed forest stand: trees age and grow on a grid, get logged on a cutting cycle by selective or clear-cut harvest, and bare ground regenerates into seedlings, while age-class structure and carbon stock are tracked live.
