Desert Sandstorm Simulator (2D)
Interactive 2D desert sandstorm simulator: raise the wind speed past the Bagnold saltation threshold, watch sandblasting loft fine dust into suspension, and see visibility collapse with the Koschmieder law as the dust wall thickens.
This 2D simulator drives real saltation and suspension physics from a single wind-speed slider: once the surface friction velocity clears Bagnold's threshold, sand grains start skipping across the dune in a saltation layer, their impacts sandblast fine dust loose, and — if the wind keeps that dust aloft faster than its Stokes settling velocity — the dust builds into a suspended cloud that thickens into an advancing wall. A live Koschmieder-law readout converts the resulting airborne concentration directly into a visibility distance, so raising the wind or the surface's erodible dust availability visibly collapses sight distance from a clear desert horizon down to the near-zero visibility of a real haboob.
A 2D desert sandstorm simulator built on real saltation and suspension physics: raise the wind speed past Bagnold's threshold to set sand skipping across the dune, watch sandblasting loft fine dust into suspension, and see the Koschmieder relation turn the resulting airborne concentration into a collapsing visibility distance.
