💧 Water Conservation and Management for Apiaries

A 3D apiary water station where a rain-fed tank, a bee-safe watering dish and a drought-stressed colony respond live to rainfall and temperature controls.

A rain-catching hive roof, a rainwater tank, and a pebble-filled watering dish form one small water budget you can push into drought or keep sustainably topped up, while bees fly out to drink whenever the dish has water.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

Rainfall fills the tank via roof and gutter; the tank trickle-feeds the dish; heat evaporates both faster than it can refill. Switching off mains top-up shows how far rainwater harvesting alone can stretch before drought stress sets in.

🎮 How to Use

Adjust rainfall, temperature and colony demand, then compare a mains-fed tank against rainwater-only. Toggle bee-safe floats to see the dry perches that let bees drink without drowning.

💡 Did You Know?

A single strong colony can collect roughly a litre of water a day in hot weather, fanning it across the comb to cool the hive the way we use evaporative cooling in a swamp cooler.
