EV vs Gasoline: Total Cost of Ownership Race
Two cars drive the same road for 15 years while cost towers rise behind them: an electric vehicle's higher sticker price against its lower running cost, versus a gasoline car's cheaper purchase but pricier fuel. Tune mileage, energy prices, EV premium and maintenance to move the break-even year.
Electrifying transport is often sold on emissions, but for most buyers the deciding number is the wallet: does the electric vehicle's lower running cost pay back its higher purchase price? This simulator drives an EV and a gasoline car down the same road for fifteen simulated years, growing a cost tower behind each one from real inputs — mileage, energy prices, purchase premium and maintenance savings — and marks the exact year the EV's total cost of ownership drops below the gasoline car's. Push electricity prices up or gasoline prices down and watch the break-even year move, or vanish entirely.
