ECLSS Thermal-Vacuum Qualification Chamber (2D)
Run a real 2D radiative thermal-vacuum qualification test on a life-support hardware article: control hot/cold shroud temperatures and orbital cycle period, integrate the real Stefan-Boltzmann heat-transfer ODE, and watch a live temperature chart decide pass/fail.
Life-support hardware is not certified by a functional test alone — it has to survive the real thermal environment of orbit first, and in vacuum that environment is governed entirely by radiation. This simulator numerically integrates the real Stefan-Boltzmann heat-transfer ODE for a life-support test article inside a chamber whose shroud walls cycle between a hot and cold setpoint once per orbital period, exactly the sun/eclipse cycling a spacecraft component actually experiences. Because the article's thermal mass damps and delays its response to the shroud, its temperature always lags the cycling drive — the live chart shows that lag directly, and the qualification verdict checks whether the article's temperature stays inside its real qualified operating band through four full cycles, the same acceptance criterion used on real flight hardware.
Run a real thermal-vacuum qualification test on a life-support hardware article: control pump-down rate, thermal ramp, and hot/cold soak swing, then watch the chamber pass or fail a 3-cycle qualification sequence.
