A 2D, three-panel view of the same lunar-regolith "gardening" model as the 3D version: micrometeorite impacts slowly churn the top layer of Apollo 11's Tranquility Base, and the churned depth follows a power-law fit to published lunar-regolith turnover studies (Gault et al. 1974; Quaide & Oberbeck 1975). The top panel shows an overhead crater-accumulation map of the patch; the middle panel is a log-scale depth cross-section showing five real Apollo-era features — Neil Armstrong's bootprint, the flag-pole socket, descent-stage debris, a buried core-tube sample and a buried seismometer cable — each erased the instant the gardening depth passes its real burial depth; the bottom panel is a draggable log-log depth-vs-time chart, since the depth model is a closed-form function of elapsed time and can be scrubbed directly.
