Acoustic Impedance (2D)
A flat 2D take on acoustic impedance: pick the medium on each side of a boundary, launch a wave packet, and watch a real pressure-velocity wave solver split it into a reflected pulse and a transmitted pulse, with amplitudes and phase set entirely by the impedance mismatch Z = ρ·c between the two materials.
A flat 2D take on acoustic impedance: pick the medium on each side of a boundary, launch a wave packet, and watch a real pressure-velocity wave solver split it into a reflected pulse (bouncing back into medium 1) and a transmitted pulse (continuing into medium 2), with amplitudes and phase set entirely by the impedance mismatch Z = ρ·c between the two materials.
A staggered-grid pressure-velocity acoustic wave solver (∂u/∂t = −(1/ρ)∂p/∂x, ∂p/∂t = −ρc²∂u/∂x) integrated on a grid whose density and sound speed change at a material boundary, so the reflected/transmitted split emerges from the physics rather than being scaled by hand.
