Watch a claim spread through a sparse, scale-free academic network of professors: a few highly-cited hub nodes carry most of the long-range connections, transmission is probabilistic per contact, and immunizing hubs collapses the outbreak far faster than immunizing the same number of random peripheral nodes.
This simulator models how an unfounded claim spreads through a scale-free academic network: a handful of highly-cited hub professors, densely interconnected with each other and fanned out to many peripheral colleagues, versus a sparse scatter of direct peer-to-peer links. Tune the number and connectivity of hubs, the per-contact transmission probability, and compare immunizing the hubs against immunizing an equal number of random peripheral professors — the resulting spread-rate gap is a real, well-documented network-science result, not a stylistic choice.
