Next-Best-View Artifact Scanning 2D

Interactive 2D top-down companion to the next-best-view scanning robot: a sensor on a ring of candidate viewpoints around a random 2D artifact contour is greedily aimed at whichever unvisited viewpoint reveals the most still-unscanned boundary, the same coverage-maximizing planner as the 3D arm-and-turntable rig.

A random closed 2D contour stands in for the 3D lathe-shaped artifact, and a ring of candidate viewpoints around it stands in for the arm's continuous elevation sweep. A greedy next-best-view controller always aims the sensor at whichever unvisited viewpoint would reveal the most boundary that is still unscanned, capturing every point that lands inside the field-of-view cone and faces back toward the sensor. Drag the candidate-viewpoint count, field of view, or coverage threshold and watch how sparse coverage geometry can strand the scan short of 100% — the same trade-off that governs how many viewpoints a real digitization rig needs to fully cover a fragile object.
