Deep Sea Jellyfish: 3D Movement Simulation (2D)

2D jet-propulsion model of deep-sea jellyfish: bell contraction drives upward thrust exactly as it does in the real animal, tentacles sway, and bioluminescent plankton flicker in the dark water column.

This 2D companion keeps the same underlying mechanic as the 3D version — a bell that contracts on a sine pulse and, because contracting the bell pushes water downward, thrusts the animal upward — but reads it on a flat canvas instead of an orbiting WebGL scene: five bells pulse at an adjustable rate, each contraction stroke visibly nudges its jellyfish up, trailing tentacles sway behind them, and a field of bioluminescent plankton drifts and flickers in the dark water so the jet-propulsion cycle is easy to watch stroke by stroke.

⚙ Under the hood

2D jet-propulsion model: bell contraction (sine pulse) generates upward thrust each cycle, tentacles sway on phase-offset curves, and additive-blended plankton particles flicker and drift, with pulse speed, plankton density, ambient darkness and current drift all live-adjustable.
