Self-Assembled Monolayer Formation & Wettability
Watch thiol/silane molecules diffuse across a gold substrate, lock onto docking sites via headgroup-substrate bonding, and lock into a hexagonal-packed self-assembled monolayer (SAM). Switch the tail endgroup between hydrophilic and hydrophobic and test the finished surface with a live water-droplet contact-angle measurement.
This simulator visualizes self-assembled monolayer (SAM) formation: thiol/silane molecules arriving from solution diffuse across a substrate, chemisorb onto empty docking sites, and pack into a hexagonal-ordered monolayer one molecule thick. Switch the exposed tail endgroup between hydrophilic and hydrophobic chemistry, then drop a water droplet onto the finished surface to measure how the monolayer's surface chemistry sets the contact angle.
