Nanocapacitor: High-κ Dielectric & Tunneling Leakage

Interactive 3D metal-insulator-metal nanocapacitor: pick a dielectric (SiO2 through HfO2/TiO2), scale the film down to sub-nanometer thickness, and watch capacitance density rise against quantum-tunneling leakage current, with live EOT and WKB-model readouts.

This simulator builds a real metal–insulator–metal nanocapacitor and lets you push its dielectric down to sub-nanometer thickness the way chip designers actually have to. Pick a dielectric — from ordinary SiO₂ to the high-κ oxides (HfO₂, ZrO₂, TiO₂) that replaced it in modern DRAM and logic gate stacks — and watch capacitance density, equivalent oxide thickness, and quantum-tunneling leakage current all update live from the same WKB-approximation model, while animated electrons visibly hop across the barrier at a rate tied to the computed leakage.

⚙ Under the hood

Build a metal-insulator-metal nanocapacitor, choose its dielectric (SiO2 through high-κ HfO2/ZrO2/TiO2), and scale the film to sub-nanometer thickness to see capacitance density trade off against quantum-tunneling leakage current in a live WKB-model readout.
