Nanoparticle Melting — 3D Lattice Simulator
3D instanced-atom lattice simulator of Gibbs–Thomson melting-point depression: orbit a gold, tin or lead nanocrystal and watch its quasi-liquid surface shell thicken and consume the lattice as temperature approaches the size-depressed melting point.
This is the same real Gibbs–Thomson melting-point-depression physics rendered as an actual 3D atomic lattice: every instanced sphere is one atom of a gold, tin or lead nanocrystal sized directly from the radius slider. As temperature climbs toward the size-depressed melting point Tm(r), a quasi-liquid skin nucleates at the undercoordinated outer shell and sweeps inward — visualized as a translucent shell boundary — until the whole lattice collapses to a liquid drop exactly at Tm(r). Orbit the crystal to watch the shell thicken from any angle.
