Bacterial Conjugation: Interrupted Mating Simulator
Interactive 3D simulation of Hfr bacterial conjugation: watch a donor chromosome feed through the mating pilus into a recipient cell at a constant rate, interrupt the mating pair at will, and see which genetic markers made it across — the classic Wollman-Jacob interrupted-mating technique.
This simulator renders one Hfr donor cell conjugating with a single F⁻ recipient through a real 3D mating bridge. Press Start and the donor chromosome — rendered as a bead chain with real genetic markers positioned by their classic map minute — feeds through the pilus into the recipient at a constant, temperature-dependent rate, exactly as in rolling-circle conjugative DNA transfer. An Interrupt Mating control lets you reproduce the historic Wollman–Jacob interrupted-mating technique: break the bridge at any moment and read off which markers made it across, the same logic nineteen-fifties geneticists used — with a literal blender — to build the first minute-scale genetic map of E. coli.
Watch an Hfr donor chromosome feed through the mating pilus into an F- recipient at a constant, temperature-dependent rate, then break the mating pair mid-transfer to reproduce the classic Wollman-Jacob interrupted-mating gene-mapping experiment.
