Spindle Assembly Checkpoint: Kinetochore Tension & Anaphase Timing (2D)

Interactive 2D spindle assembly checkpoint simulator: watch each kinetochore run a stochastic microtubule search-and-capture cycle, see the Mad2 'wait-anaphase' signal gate anaphase on the slowest-to-attach chromosome, and toggle a checkpoint override to see how often mis-segregation follows.

This 2D companion runs the same per-kinetochore attachment-state model as the 3D version, drawn as a flat metaphase-plate diagram so every capture, release and stabilization event is directly visible. Each kinetochore is its own tiny state machine — unattached, wrongly attached, or correctly bi-oriented under tension — driven by real per-frame random capture and release rolls, not a scripted animation. Anaphase is globally gated by whichever chromosome is slowest to reach bi-orientation, and a checkpoint-override toggle lets you force anaphase on a timer instead, so you can watch — and measure over repeated trials — how much more often chromosomes mis-segregate once the checkpoint is bypassed.

⚙ Under the hood

Interactive 3D mitosis simulator: seed a metaphase plate with syntelic misattachments, watch Aurora B correct tension-less kinetochores in real time, and see the Mad2 checkpoint release anaphase only once every chromosome is properly bi-oriented.
