🧪 Medical Neuroimaging Simulation
Interactive diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI) simulator: watch a synthetic diffusion-tensor field of the brain render as ellipsoids, then trace white-matter fiber tracts with deterministic (FACT-style) tractography, tuning the FA and turning-angle thresholds and seeing why crossing fibers break the single-tensor model.
Diffusion-tensor imaging turns the direction water diffuses inside each brain voxel into a map of white-matter fiber orientation. This simulator renders a synthetic diffusion-tensor field — ellipsoids stretched along each voxel's principal diffusion axis — over two crossing fiber bundles, then runs deterministic (FACT-style) tractography from seed points: stepping along the local tensor direction, flipping the sign-ambiguous eigenvector to stay consistent, and halting when fractional anisotropy drops or the tract bends too sharply. Adjustable FA and turning-angle thresholds show directly how a single-tensor model behaves at a fiber crossing, and clicking anywhere on the slice seeds a new streamline the way a radiologist would place an ROI in a clinical tractography workstation.
This simulation demonstrates the principles of medical imaging techniques like MRI and CT scans, allowing users to explore how these technologies visualize internal body structures for diagnostic purposes. It highlights the use of radiation and magnetic fields in generating detailed anatomical data.
