Biomedical engineers grow replacement tissue by seeding cells onto a porous scaffold and waiting for them to colonise it — but colonisation is limited by how far oxygen and nutrients can diffuse from the nearest blood supply. This simulator visualizes that process directly: a central vascular channel feeds a 3D lattice scaffold, and cells seeded near its base mature and spread to neighbouring struts at a rate set by local nutrient concentration. Adjust the growth rate, scaffold pore size and nutrient diffusion range to see how each changes whether tissue fills the whole construct or stalls partway, exactly the trade-off tissue engineers face when designing real scaffolds.
