CT Scan Reconstruction Simulator

Interactive CT scanner: a source/detector gantry rotates around a virtual patient slice, collecting X-ray attenuation projections at every angle and reconstructing the cross-section live with unfiltered or filtered back-projection. Tune gantry speed and tissue contrast in real time.

Computed tomography never photographs the inside of the body directly — it infers the cross-section from many one-dimensional X-ray measurements. This simulator models that process end to end: a source/detector pair orbits a virtual patient slice containing soft tissue, a bone ring and a lesion of adjustable contrast, sending a parallel beam of rays through it at every angle. Each ray's attenuation becomes one projection; every projection is smeared back across a reconstruction grid, and — with the ramp filter enabled — sharpened the way a real scanner's filtered back-projection does. Watch the blurry star pattern of plain back-projection resolve into a clean image as more angles accumulate, and see how low tissue contrast makes that convergence much harder.

⚙ Under the hood

Interactive 3D model of a rotating CT gantry: a source/detector pair sweeps X-ray projections around a virtual patient slice while the scanner reconstructs the cross-section live with unfiltered or filtered back-projection. Tune gantry speed and tissue contrast to see how each affects reconstruction fidelity.
