Fiber Composite Stiffness & Failure Lab
Pull a fiber-reinforced composite bar to failure and watch rule-of-mixtures theory play out in 3D: tune fiber volume fraction, switch between carbon, glass and aramid fiber, load along or across the fibers, and see which phase cracks first.
Fiber-reinforced composites get their strength from a division of labor: stiff, brittle fibers embedded in a softer, tougher matrix that binds them together and transfers load between them. This simulator renders that load transfer directly on a 3D specimen bar — a grid of fiber rods running through a translucent matrix block, gripped at both ends like a tensile-test machine. Choose a fiber material, set the fiber volume fraction, pick whether the pull runs along the fibers (longitudinal, iso-strain) or across them (transverse, iso-stress), then ramp the applied strain and watch the rule-of-mixtures equations decide the composite's stiffness and which phase cracks first.
Pull a fiber-reinforced composite bar to failure in 3D and watch rule-of-mixtures theory play out live: choose carbon, glass or aramid fiber, set the fiber volume fraction, load along or across the fibers, and see which phase -- fiber or matrix -- cracks first as the effective modulus and stress split between them update in real time.
