Four material samples sit side by side in the same compost bin: a PLA bioplastic, a PHA bioplastic, a natural cellulose fibre and a conventional fossil-fuel plastic. Each bed decomposes according to first-order decay kinetics scaled by temperature and moisture, with PLA carrying a realistic hydrolysis threshold that only activates once the pile is hot enough to qualify as industrial composting. Push the temperature and moisture sliders toward an industrial-compost preset or a cooler home-bin preset and watch which materials actually break down under each regime, while the conventional plastic sample barely moves — a direct visual answer to why "biodegradable" packaging still needs the right end-of-life infrastructure to live up to the label.
