Geoheritage Story Archive 2D: Reading Rock Strata in Cross-Section
Scrub an excavation depth through 14 stacked rock strata in plain cross-section and read off the age, era and thickness of whichever layer is exposed, using the principle of superposition.
This 2D companion drags the same 14-layer strata stack from the 3D dig into a plain cross-section built for reading the timeline rather than orbiting a scene: a dashed line marks the excavation depth, an inset band lights up each layer as it's dug out, and hovering anywhere on the face pops up that layer's name, age and depositional era directly — the same superposition logic the 3D version teaches, just laid flat and easier to scan.
