Water Droplet Ripples (2D)

A finite-difference solver for the 2D wave equation drives a real ripple-tank surface: drop stones, tune propagation speed and damping, and watch the peak amplitude and wave energy readouts respond live.

This 2D companion swaps the 3D version's shader-displaced mesh for a plain ripple-tank canvas built for reading the physics directly: a discretized 2D wave equation (a five-point finite-difference Laplacian driving a velocity field with viscous damping) governs every cell of the surface, so waves genuinely propagate outward at the speed you set rather than being approximated with layered sine waves. Click or tap anywhere on the water to drop a stone, or let the automatic droplet rate keep the surface alive, and watch the live peak-amplitude and energy readouts track the ringing as it decays.
