This 2D plan-view simulator solves that fate directly on a finite-difference grid — a genuinely distinct numerical approach from the 3D version's Lagrangian particle tracking — integrating the real advection–dispersion–reaction equation cell by cell, frame by frame, to render a live top-down concentration heat-map of the plume. A monitoring-well transect 120 m downstream reports a live relative-concentration reading and flags whether the plume is approaching, at, or safely below a compliance threshold, while a genuine mass-balance calculation reports what fraction of leached contaminant has actually biodegraded versus what remains in the aquifer or has flushed past the monitoring point — exactly the question a site remediation team has to answer from real monitoring-well data.
