Scrub a queen cell through royal-jelly-fuelled development from egg to emerged queen, tune her pheromone output and colony size to watch the retinue and pheromone cloud respond, then try introducing a new queen in a cage and see whether the colony would accept or ball her.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

Queen and worker larvae start genetically identical; an exclusive royal-jelly diet compresses queen development to about 16 days and produces a fertile adult. Her Queen Mandibular Pheromone shrinks or grows in reach with colony size, changing how many workers stay "queenright."

🎮 How to Use

In Development mode, drag the day slider to watch the queen cell's contents change. Switch to Introduction cage mode to see how caging time and pheromone strength predict whether resident workers would accept or ball a new queen.

💡 Did You Know?

Beekeepers exploit the shared genetics directly: grafting an ordinary young worker larva into an artificial queen cup and feeding it royal jelly is the standard technique for commercial queen rearing.
