Heap Leach Liner Leak: Hydraulic Head & Seepage (2D)
2D cross-section of a heap-leach pad: a Darcy-law seepage model couples liner integrity, irrigation rate and underdrain capacity so you can watch hydraulic head build on the liner and drive a leak into the groundwater below.
This 2D companion trades the 3D scene's rotating tank for a plain cross-section built on a real mass-balance: irrigation percolates through the ore heap, the underdrain carries away what it can as pregnant leach solution, and whatever it cannot carry accumulates as hydraulic head sitting directly on the liner — head that then drives a Darcy-law leak whose size depends on both that head and how damaged the liner is, so pushing irrigation past the underdrain's capacity on a compromised liner visibly turns a secure pad into a breach.
2D heap-leach cross-section driven by a reservoir mass balance and Darcy-law seepage term: liner integrity, irrigation rate, underdrain capacity and heap height jointly set the hydraulic head on the liner and the resulting leak rate into groundwater.
