Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment: Cross-Section (2D)
Interactive 2D side cross-section of an activated-sludge wastewater plant: tune influent flow, MLSS, aeration and sludge recycle ratio and watch biomass flocs digest organic pollutants in the aeration tank before they settle in the clarifier, with live effluent BOD, removal efficiency, F/M ratio and hydraulic retention time computed from the real CSTR mass-balance equation. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom.
This is the 2D cross-section counterpart to the 3D activated-sludge simulator: the same continuously-stirred-reactor process — amber pollutant particles drifting into an aeration zone and being consumed by brown biomass flocs at a rate set by dissolved oxygen and biomass concentration, while settled sludge either recycles back to sustain the reactor (RAS) or is wasted — viewed as a true side-on slice through the two-tank plant. Drag to pan and scroll to zoom across the aeration tank, the divider gap and the clarifier's settling hopper. Four real process controls — influent flow, MLSS, aeration intensity and recycle ratio — drive the same CSTR mass-balance equation used to design real plants, with effluent BOD, removal efficiency, F/M ratio and hydraulic retention time updating live as you tune them.
2D companion to the 3D activated-sludge simulator: a true side cross-section through the aeration tank and clarifier, with the same CSTR mass-balance equation driving pollutant-consuming biomass flocs, aeration bubbles and sludge recycling, so the process reads as a drag-to-pan, scroll-to-zoom diagram instead of a rendered 3D scene.
