Aquifer Drawdown & Saltwater Intrusion: Groundwater Desalination Well (2D)

2D companion to the Groundwater Desalination 3D scene: a real Cooper-Jacob drawdown equation grows a cone of depression around a pumping well while the Ghyben-Herzberg relation tracks how far the saltwater interface rises toward the well screen.

This 2D companion looks at the same groundwater desalination system from the well-field side rather than the membrane side: a Cooper–Jacob drawdown equation grows a real cone of depression around the pumping well as transmissivity, storativity and pumping rate interact, while the Ghyben–Herzberg relation tracks how far the freshwater–saltwater interface rises toward the well screen as the head falls — so cranking the pump too hard, choosing a shallow unconfined aquifer close to the coast, or skipping artificial recharge all show up directly as a shrinking freshwater lens margin and, eventually, a wellhead TDS spike toward seawater.
