Wind Turbine Power Curve Simulator

Interactive wind-turbine power-curve simulator: sweep wind speed and rotor diameter to see cut-in, ramp-up and rated regions, then toggle blade pitch control to see why it caps power output instead of letting it overshoot.

A wind turbine's output does not simply track wind speed — it moves through distinct operating regions shaped by the physics of the rotor and the electronics that protect it. Below cut-in there is no usable torque; from cut-in to rated speed, power climbs with the cube of wind speed as blades sit at their most efficient angle; above rated speed, active blade pitch control feathers the blades to hold power flat instead of letting it overshoot the generator's design limit; and above cut-out, the turbine shuts down entirely for safety. This simulator plots that curve live, lets you resize the rotor, and lets you disable pitch control to see directly why it exists.

⚙ Under the hood

Explore how wind speed and blade angle affect power output using the Betz limit to maximize efficiency.
