Molten Salt Reactor: Delayed Neutron Precursor Drift
Interactive 3D simulation of delayed-neutron precursor drift in a circulating-fuel molten salt reactor: watch precursors advect out of the core and see how flow speed and loop length shrink the effective delayed-neutron fraction.
This simulator models a real, measurable consequence of pumping the nuclear fuel itself around a loop: delayed-neutron precursor nuclei get carried out of the core before many of them decay. A finite-volume solver advects and decays precursor concentration around a 3D racetrack loop in real time, and live readouts show how flow speed, external loop length, and the choice of precursor group change the effective delayed-neutron fraction retained inside the core.
Simulate how pumping molten fuel salt through a circulating loop carries delayed-neutron precursors out of the core before they decay, and see how flow speed and loop length shrink the reactor's effective delayed-neutron fraction.
