Persian Panemone Windmill Simulator
Interactive 3D simulation of the traditional Persian panemone windmill: a shielding wall funnels wind onto only one side of a vertical drag-rotor, producing net torque that drives a millstone or water lift. Tune wind speed, wall shielding and load to see the rotor find its equilibrium speed.
The panemone windmill is a vertical-axis, drag-type design used across Sistan (Iran) for over a millennium to grind grain and lift irrigation water. A shielding wall funnels wind onto only one side of the rotor's paddle blades, so the rotor turns from unequal drag alone rather than lift or gearing. This simulation computes that asymmetric torque directly from wind speed, how completely the wall shields the return side, the mechanical load coupled to the shaft, and blade count, then integrates it into an actual rotor angular velocity you can watch settle to equilibrium — or stall — in real time.
