Sand Battery: Resistive Thermal Energy Storage — 2D

Interactive 2D sand-battery simulator: charge an insulated silo with a resistive heater by integrating dT/dt = P/(mc) - k(T-Tamb) every frame, store it through an idle period, then discharge through a heat-exchanger draw while a live chart tracks temperature and measures round-trip thermal efficiency.

A 2D-canvas companion to the 3D sand-battery simulator, built around the same real sensible-heat physics — resistive charging, insulation-scaled ambient loss and heat-exchanger discharge — but collapsed to a single lumped thermal mass so the full charge → idle-storage → discharge cycle can be integrated with a fine timestep and plotted as one continuous temperature trace. Drive the silo live with the Charge/Idle/Discharge buttons, or use "Run full cycle" to instantly simulate a complete cycle at your chosen storage duration and insulation quality and read off the measured round-trip thermal efficiency — watch it fall as storage time lengthens or insulation worsens, exactly as the underlying heat-loss equation predicts.

⚙ Under the hood

Charge an insulated silo of sand with a resistive heater and watch heat diffuse shell by shell in 3D, then discharge it through a heat-exchanger coil while tracking core/surface temperature, stored energy and state of charge.
