Bioeconomy: Biomass-to-Biorefinery Simulator

Interactive circular bioeconomy simulator: grow a biomass field, harvest it into a biorefinery, and watch the split between biofuel, bioplastic and recycled fertiliser change as you tune growth rate, harvest rate, conversion efficiency and recycling rate.

A bioeconomy replaces fossil feedstock with renewable biomass — crops, forestry residue, algae — processed through a biorefinery into fuels, materials and chemicals, ideally with the residue looped back into the land. This simulator visualizes that whole chain: a field of biomass regrows continuously under a logistic growth model, is harvested on a cycle into a central biorefinery, and split into biofuel and bioplastic product streams plus a residue stream that is partly recycled as fertiliser and partly lost as waste. Adjust growth rate, harvest rate, conversion efficiency and recycling rate to see how the stock, cumulative CO₂ displacement and circularity index respond — and how easy it is to push a biomass supply into collapse by harvesting faster than it can regrow.
