Marine Plastic Biomagnification
Watch microplastic particles bioaccumulate and biomagnify up a marine food chain — from ambient water concentration through zooplankton, fish and top predators — with a live bar chart of the concentration climb and an adjustable chain-length control.
This simulator visualizes how microplastic particles bioaccumulate inside individual marine organisms and biomagnify up a food chain. Set the ambient microplastic concentration in the water and watch each trophic level — zooplankton, small fish, large fish and a top predator — carry a visibly higher tissue concentration than the level it feeds on, because animals ingest far more plastic through a lifetime of eating than their bodies can excrete. Extend the chain to see how each additional trophic level compounds the effect, and read the exact numbers off the live bar chart.
Set the ambient microplastic concentration in ocean water and watch it bioaccumulate and biomagnify up a food chain — zooplankton, small fish, large fish and a top predator each carry a visibly higher tissue concentration than the level below, with a live bar chart of the concentration climb and an adjustable chain-length control.
