Land Sparing vs Land Sharing Simulator
Meet a fixed regional food-production target either by farming a small area intensively and setting aside a large untouched reserve (land sparing), or by farming a larger area at lower intensity with wildlife-friendly practices (land sharing) — then tune the region's species mix and watch which strategy wins for total biodiversity.
A region must hit a fixed food-production target. This simulator lays out two ways to do it side by side: land sparing farms a small area intensively and sets aside a large untouched reserve, while land sharing farms a larger area at lower intensity with wildlife-friendly elements woven into the farmland, leaving a smaller reserve. Tune each strategy's farming intensity and the region's mix of habitat specialists versus farmland-tolerant generalists to see which spatial layout wins for total regional biodiversity — and why neither strategy wins outright.
