🦇 Cave Food Web & Troglomorphic Evolution

Deep in a cave beyond all sunlight, an entire food web runs on bat guano instead of photosynthesis — toggle the bat colony to watch fungi, invertebrates and blind predators grow or starve. Switch modes to breed a cave-isolated population across generations and watch its eyes and pigmentation fade next to a surface reference that keeps both.

⚙ Under the hood

Deep cave zones get zero sunlight, so nothing there can photosynthesize — toggle a bat colony's guano input and watch the whole cave food web (fungi/bacteria decomposers → cave crickets and isopods → blind fish and cave spiders) grow or starve from the base up, entirely independent of light. Switch to Evolution mode and advance a cave-isolated population generation by generation to watch its eyes shrink and its pigment fade next to an unchanged surface-population reference, driven by the same energy-cost-without-benefit logic that shapes real troglobites.
