Bioremediation uses microorganisms — and sometimes plants — to break down contaminants like petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater. This simulator runs a real dual-Monod kinetic model: a coupled system of contaminant, microbial biomass and dissolved-oxygen equations that tracks how fast bacteria degrade the pollutant as both the contaminant itself and the oxygen they breathe run down over time. Choose between natural attenuation (just the native microbes and slow oxygen diffusion), biostimulation (injecting oxygen and nutrients to boost the existing population) and bioaugmentation (inoculating the site with a larger lab-grown culture), then tune contaminant load, temperature and oxygen injection rate to see how each choice changes cleanup time.
