Cool Roof Surface Energy Balance
Interactive 3D surface energy balance simulator: change a roof's solar albedo, thermal emissivity and wind speed and watch the roof surface temperature and building heat flux respond in real time, exactly as in real cool-roof engineering.
A roof's daytime temperature is set by a simple physical tug-of-war: how much sunlight it absorbs versus how fast it sheds that heat back to the sky and the air. This simulator models that balance directly — solar absorption set by albedo, infrared emission set by emissivity and the Stefan–Boltzmann law, and convective cooling set by wind speed — across a tiled 3D roof under a moving sun. Switch between real roofing materials (black asphalt, dark shingle, gray membrane, white elastomeric coating, reflective metal) or dial in your own albedo and emissivity, and watch the roof surface temperature, the heat flux reaching the building interior, and the cooling benefit versus a standard black roof update live. It's the same energy-balance mechanic city cool-roof mandates and heat-mitigation programs are built on.
