As permafrost warms, buildings founded directly on frozen ground face a slow-motion threat: thaw settlement, where ice-rich soil loses volume and load-bearing strength as it crosses 0°C, cracking foundations built to stand on solid ice. This simulator models a 6×6 grid of soil columns beneath a small structure, each one coupled to a seasonally oscillating air temperature through a latent-heat-buffered relaxation model, and lets you deploy passive thermosyphons — sealed convection pipes that extract extra heat only in winter, when the air is colder than the ground — across some or all of the array. Push the climate warmer, strip away thermosyphon coverage, or reduce ground ice content, and watch the ground temperature field, thaw-front statistics and foundation stability respond in real time, with the building itself sinking and tilting once its corner piles thaw.
