Conservation Tillage Carbon Balance — Stock-Flow & Phase Plane
Interactive 2D soil-carbon simulator: a stock-and-flow tank diagram plus a live dC/dt-vs-C phase-plane plot reveal the first-order kinetics behind conservation tillage carbon sequestration — tune tillage intensity and cover-crop input and watch the system converge to its equilibrium.
The same first-order soil organic carbon (SOC) kinetics as the 3D cropland field — dC/dt = I − k·C — rendered through two genuinely 2D representations of the system's state space instead of a rendered field: a stock-and-flow tank diagram showing carbon literally flowing in and draining out of the SOC pool, and a phase-plane plot of dC/dt against C that makes the stable equilibrium C_eq = I/k visible as the point where the line crosses zero. Tillage intensity steepens the outflow line by raising the decomposition constant k; cover-crop input raises the inflow and therefore the equilibrium the tank is draining or filling toward.
A 2D stock-and-flow tank diagram plus a live dC/dt-vs-C phase-plane plot reveal the first-order soil-carbon kinetics behind conservation tillage — tune tillage intensity and cover-crop carbon input and watch the operating point slide along the phase line to its equilibrium C_eq = I/k.
